Job Description
Overview:
The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program is searching for a Part-Time Grant Writer (20 hours a week) with experience researching, drafting, editing, designing and submitting fundraising material. This is a new role for the organization that will be part of a new fundraising program, meaning the successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of our grant writing strategy, while being supported by a culture that encourages learning and growth.
You will thrive in this role if you are self-motivated, adaptable, and possess a diverse skill set, encompassing some or all the following: demonstrated success in grant writing, project management, graphic design and working with fundraising databases.

Responsibilities:
Research
- Research and identify funding opportunities that are aligned with our vision, mission, and values as well as our strategic plan.
- Develop and refine strategies on an ongoing basis for identifying prospective funders and funding agencies.
Grant Writing & Copy Editing
- Write and submit compelling proposals to foundations, governments (multi-level) and other funders, appropriate to the identity and mission of our organization.
- Establish and meet goals and milestones in relation to our larger objectives as outlined in our strategic plan.
- Manage the grant application process, from tracking deadlines through to successful submission and follow-up.
- Develop and implement new strategies for writing grants and copy-editing, as appropriate.
- Provide copy-editing support as needed to team member
Graphic Design
- Create visually appealing fundraising materials Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and other software that aligns with style and branding guidelines.
Reporting
- Manage and track reporting requirements.
- Prepare and submit relevant documentation and reports in a timely fashion to funders.
- Oversee compliance in ensuring all requirements set out by funders are met or exceeded in a timely manner.
- Working with programmatic staff, monitor and evaluate outcomes for funded projects and prepare reports and presentations (i.e., on impact and outcomes).
- Develop and implement processes for efficient monitoring and reporting
Other
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for grant writing and reporting.
Database Management:
- Maintain an up-to-date database of funders to ensure an accurate record of opportunities, deadlines, written submissions, and reports.
- Utilize database insights to identify and evaluate fundraising opportunities.
Administrative:
- Handle administrative tasks related to fundraising and donor engagement.
- As part of a collaborative team, you will occasionally take on other responsibilities, provided they don’t interfere with your ability to complete the above fundraising priorities.
We are interested in applicants who have:
- Experience working in the non-profit or not-for-profit sectors.
- Proven experience and a positive track record of preparing proposals and receiving grants.
- Excellent project management skills (ability to manage and execute multiple tasks and projects within deadlines).
- Familiarity with grant software and databases and a high degree of comfort in learning new software programs.
- Exemplary communication skills – both verbal and written, with advanced writing skills and a solid command of the English language (French would be an asset)
- Superior attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft365 – MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and some PowerPoint
- An extraordinary record of being reliable and trustworthy
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, tactful, and capable of weighing and prioritizing responsibilities on a day-to-day basis
- Highly professional conduct and appearance, and acts with integrity and caring
- Self-directed, efficient
- Willingness to supervise and coach co-op students, interns and volunteers, as required.
- Ability to collaborate with team members and take on additional responsibilities as needed
- Quick learner and attentive to discussions and directives, asking questions as appropriate
Salary & Benefits:
- $28 – $30 per hour
