The vision of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program is to be one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country, dedicated to honouring and advancing the humanitarian legacy of Terry Fox – one of Canada’s most recognized heroes – by encouraging Canadian youth to emulate Terry’s courage and determination through volunteer work and humanitarian services.
Since its inception, the Award Program’s mission has been two-fold:
- To provide scholarships to encourage young Canadians to seek the high ideal that Terry Fox exemplified, through the pursuit of higher education.
- To receive funds and to establish, maintain, and manage an endowment fund, including the means of encouraging its growth through government, private and corporate gifts, bequests, donations, and contributions.
The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was created by the Government of Canada to honour and advance the legacy of Terry Fox – one of the most pivotal figures of the 20th century – and his remarkable contributions to the cause of cancer awareness and research, and to Canada as an outstanding citizen, athlete, and humanitarian. Our hope is to create a sustainable legacy from coast to coast. In doing so, our program aims to strengthen Canadian participation in communities and civic life, and function as a catalyst to connect Canadians to each other, as well as to showcase Canadian talent, diversity, and values in sports, arts, and culture to the world.
